[GO4GLOW Review]: DrGL Restore Gel & Skin Repair – total HG for irritated, red & acne-prone skin

I know skincare can get confusing. In fact, skincare is downright confusing. There are so many products out there that promise you all kinds of different things, and it’s easy to get swayed by them.

That’s why I always appreciate simple, effective, and friendly products. The ones that have ingredients lists anyone can understand easily, that cut out the clutter of having many different products promising a million different things, and prove their worth by being quietly and reliably effective.

Enter two of my HG products from DrGL’s line — Restore Gel Mask and Skin Repair. No matter how many products I try (and want to try), I keep coming back to these two stellar workhorses, and I can always rely on them to keep my irritated, sensitive skin in check.

Two products I’ll hold on to for life: DrGL Restore Gel Mask and DrGL Skin Repair.

Glow report #1: DrGL Restore Gel Mask

Review: This moisturiser is like… the most amazing version of aloe vera ever. It’s incredibly lightweight, but manages to moisturise my skin perfectly. It’s cool to the touch even when it’s not kept in the fridge, so it is very soothing and calming when applied to the skin.

Ingredients: This is where it gets really exciting. I’m not sure if ingredients could contain less triggers than this. There is Butylene Gycol (which scores a 1 as a potential acne trigger), but that’s all. The Restore Gel Mask also contains:

  • Scutellaria Baicelensis: Also known as ‘skullcaps’, and is one of the 50 fundamentals in Chinese herbology, used to dispel ‘heatiness’ and inflammation.
  • Paeonia Suffruiticosa: Chinese peony. Also known to combat ‘heatiness’ in the body.
  • Licorice: Antimicrobial, antiviral, and known to treat hyper pigmentation caused by skin inflammation.

How to use: As a day/ night moisturiser, and the last step of your skincare regimeI have been product testing a *little* too much at the moment, which has led me to some pretty alarming cystic breakouts (on the forehead and cheeks). There’s nothing like the DrGL Restore Gel Mask as a moisturiser to reduce redness, calm down pimples, and strengthen my moisture barrier.

I find this is perfect moisturiser after a late night of drinking and being out in the humid air too — after using this, I wake up with rejuvenated skin. Like the night before did not happen. And that is something to celebrate.

Other uses: As a post-procedural treatment, after sun cooling treatment, shaving gel, and as a face mask. Note: I’ve tried using this as a face mask a few times, but I ended up loving how it felt on my face so much that I couldn’t bear to remove any. Plus it absorbs really well, so I suggest you don’t waste any of this and just use it as a moisturiser.

Fragrance: A fresh, slightly herbal scent. Not overpowering and certainly not irritating.

Suitable for: Sensitive skin, acne-prone skin, oily/combination skin, skin going through a hard time (post-procedure, post-sun exposure, post-bad breakout).

Price point: $58 for 100ml; $98 for 240ml. You can get DRGL products at Tangs, Robinsons, BHG, Sephora, and online.

Glow Homme: There is also a man’s version that I think would be a great multi-tasking product for you guys out there. You can use it as a shaving gel, and then slather it on again after shaving to soothe irritated skin. It’s already a moisturiser too, so there’s no need to moisturise after that again.

GO4GLOW rating: 4.8/5

Rating scale:
1/5: No no no; this product needs to be recalled as it can’t even fulfil its primary claim.
2/5: Caused problems; I wouldn’t even give this away so as not to inflict the pain on someone else.
3/5: OK but nothing amazing; I might give this away to see if it works better for someone else.
4/5: Pretty good! I will continue to repurchase if I don’t find anything better.
5/5: YOU GLOW GIRL! HG status; I will not give this up unless it’s discontinued.

Glow report #2: DrGL Skin Repair

Review: Guys. This. THIS. I love Skin Repair so much that I have to stop and take a few breaths because I’m so overcome with gratitude and love for this product. This is exactly why I love DrGL’s products so much — Skin Repair is a tiny, innocuous serum that does exactly what it’s supposed to… Repair skin when it sustains damage. What is so special about this is that it yields immediate, noticeable results.

The last time I was discussing Skin Repair with its maker, Dr Georgia Lee, she told me that the longer you let irritation persist on your skin, the higher the chances of long term resulting blemishes and pigmentation. So, always deal with your skin irritation ASAP or risk more permanent damage!

Skin Repair is the perfect candidate for the job — this is a serum/ spot treatment that revitalises skin and gives it back its natural glow and radiance.

Ingredients: As always with DrGL products, feel free to geek out completely on Skin Repair’s simple yet highly effective ingredients list. BTW, there are no acne or irritant triggers on Skin Repair — always a winner in my book. Some notable ingredients include:

  • Cucumis Sativus Fruit Extract, aka cucumber fruit extract: Known for astringent, hydrating and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Ribonucleic acid (RNA) and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA): These are chemicals made by the body, and are essential in rapid growth during challenges to the immune system, which makes them crucial in the ‘healing’ process of skin.
  • Tremella, aka snow fungus: Famously used in SKII and many Kbeauty products, Tremella is another healing ingredient, known to revitalise skin and potentially lighten spots.

How to use: As a all over face serum or targeted spot treatment. After cleansing and toning, dispense a few drops and apply on areas that need special care, massaging gently. Smooth remaining serum all over face to maintain good skin.

Fragrance: No fragrance.

Suitable for: Skin that needs healing anywhere — be it a fresh breakout, post-breakout scars, or red/ dry/ itchy/ inflamed skin. Also for anyone who has sensitive skin and wants a simple but powerful formula to help maintain healthy skin.

Price point: $118 for 10ml. Yes it’s a little pricey, but judging by how it’s always sold out on DrGL’s website, you can imagine just how much everyone loves this. You can get DRGL products at Tangs, Robinsons, BHG, Sephora, and online.

Glow Homme: I’ve gotten many questions from men asking about getting rid of scars/ blemishes, and I seriously recommend this. It’s easy to use and highly effective. Enough said.
