[GO4GLOW REVIEW]: COSRX Holy Moly Snail Mask – best snail mask I’ve ever tried?

I have really temperamental skin. You know when you become a member of a skincare brand, and they ask you to fill in these forms about your skin type — dry, oily, combination, sensitive, etc? I always get confused, because my skin is all of the above.

I have days where I look mighty shiny by 10am, and then there are days my face is so dry that smiling hurts. My skin is also incredibly sensitive. If some of my hair happens to stick to my cheek when I’m asleep at night, I’ll most probably get a pimple in that area.

Anyway, my point is, deciding what to do with my skin is a daily struggle. But when my skin is feeling especially dry and unhappy, I can always count on my COSRX Holy Moly Snail Mask to save me.

The COSRX Holy Moly Snail Mask description is really lovely: “Starting tonight, refresh the look of your skin with this snail mucin face mask. Using this can help lock in moisture and supply a layer of nourishing formula featuring snail mucin”.

The COSRX Holy Moly Snail Mask promises to ‘lock in moisture’ and nourish skin.

GO4GLOW review: If my face is feeling particularly dry, tight, and uneven, this is definitely a mask I would choose. When I unfold this mask, there is so much essence that I find myself patting the excess essence in for 5 mins all over my arms and legs.

This mask feels really soothing on. Somehow it has a nice cooling effect on my skin, and it has so much product on it that you could probably keep it on for up to 45 mins.

Aftereffects? This mask isn’t a ‘fast-absorbing’ one. I wouldn’t try using this in the day or under makeup. It leaves behind a layer of mad hydration on my skin that almost feels as though I’d just applied an oil essence. If moisture and hydration is what you’re after, then this is the mask for you.

In fact, I usually dispense with essences and serums preceding this mask, because it is that hydrating. After this mask, a thin layer of DrGL Restore Gel is enough to get me through the night too.

Ingredients: Snails, snails, snails. They’re 2nd on the ingredient list, which means there’s a nice dose of it in the mask. And I can’t emphasise the benefits of snails enough — they’ve proven to be the perfect anti-ageing ingredient, soothing dry skin, smoothing out wrinkles, promoting healing, and even reducing acne.

Another interesting ingredient is the 1st — ginseng water, which has antioxidant, soothing, and anti-ageing properties. Packed with phytonutrients, ginseng can help to tone and even out skin tone.

The full ingredients list (find it on cosDNA) is a nice clean one. I really appreciate this, as there are many sheet masks out there that are pumped full of alcohol and filler ingredients (Missha, I’m looking at you) that will end up irritating your skin and drying you out more.

COSRX also added a nice touch to this mask by using natural camellia oil to dye the mask its peachy skin colour. Camellia oil is another beloved AB ingredient, known for its anti-ageing and moisturising properties.

How to use: After cleansing, exfoliating, and toning, you can probably skip all other steps and just slap this mask on. Post-mask, your skin will be so hydrated you could then get away with a very light moisturiser before bed.

Fragrance: Slightly flowery, nothing strong at all.

Suitable for: Dry and irritated skin. You might have to take a bit of extra time to pat in the essence, which certainly ain’t fast-absorbing, but it’s worth all that next morning moisture and plumpness.

Last words: I would’ve given this mask a 4.5 for results alone, but I had to dock 0.5 points from it for its material. Because it’s made of rayon, it’s not as light or breathable as other fabrics (cupro or microfibre). This makes it feel a tad heavy on the face when it’s on. However, I’m just nitpicking here. This is definitely the best snail mask I’ve tried!

GO4GLOW rating: 4/5

Rating scale:
1/5: No no no; this product needs to be recalled as it can’t even fulfil its primary claim.
2/5: Caused problems; I wouldn’t even give this away so as not to inflict the pain on someone else.
3/5: OK but nothing amazing; I might give this away to see if it works better for someone else.
4/5: Pretty good! I will continue to repurchase if I don’t find anything better.
5/5: YOU GLOW GIRL! HG status; I will not give this up unless it’s discontinued.
